No Kings in America

No Kings in America

I made this “No Kings in America” shirt for me to wear at the No Kings Protest. I set up my silk screen rig in my studio and printed it out. I ended up having a gig that day, but I wore it proudly on stage all day.  It generated a lot of interest, so I made it available here on HipsterDaddy.com.

I know that there is no long, rambling post that I could make to help people better understand the issues and challenges that face our country. And truth be told, I’d just be preaching to the choir. If you found HipsterDaddy.com, you are probably looking for shirts like this. Or if you are reading this blog, it’s probably because your algorithm picked up the phrase “No Kings” and pointed you to this post. (I buy a lot of t-shirts and I never read the company’s blog.) This post is really just to help keep my SEO churning and allow others to more easily find me.

HipsterDaddy.com was not started with the idea of making or supporting those that wanted political, environment, or cultural change. It was an old URL that I had hanging around and since I’ve always loved how a good graphic t-shirt can be a conversation started, I thought, why not make some of my own. And it could promote my personal art work and just be something fun to help make a few bucks.

But, it has been slow going. Making the designs, creating the store and systems, and monitoring all that is involved… but I’m going to keep going. You may see more political and social issue focused shirts in the future, you may see more of my art. You can also contact HipsterDaddy to design and create your custom shirts, we are open to it!

Lastly, and the real reason I started writing this post; I wanted to address the issue of “commerce and profiting from political and social issues.” Here in DC, I hand print and give-away shirts all the time. Or I produce shirts at a very low cost for causes, often not covering my cost of operations. As a business I look at a need in the market and try to fill it…for financial gains. But it’s hard to think about how much profit I can make from people’s outrage, suffering, and need to start those conversion with others. So, over the next few months, HipsterDaddy will be coming up with a basic and consistent formula for pricing. Some things may go up a bit, some may go down. I’ve been lucky with you, my customers, you can go to Walmart and buy a similar shirt for $5 that I may be selling for $29, but you choose to buy my shirt, wait for it to be made, and shipped. That is not lost on the HipsterDaddy team, and we all thank you for that.

Stay strong, have fun, live and learn and do good out there.
